What is a Union?
A union is the exclusive representative for all non-supervisory employees on all matters related to their employment. In return, unions charge dues for their services. These dues are often deducted directly from employee paychecks.
Collect dues, fees, fines and assessments
Negotiate contracts, make proposals and require employees to go on strike
Represent all employees even those who voted against the union or did not vote
Penalize, fine or discipline their members for violating union by-laws
Determine how employees perform work. All they can do is negotiate
Guarantee a union contract, higher wages, better benefits, hours or employment
Prevent layoffs or termination for just cause
Fire or transfer managers
